Senior Golf Open
The Seniors Golf Open, hosted by Seniors Captain Paul Waite took place on Monday 23rd June. 132 players from clubs across the South West and beyond took part for a day of competition and camaraderie. Congratulations to Mike Weeks and Martin Breading from Exeter Golf & Country Club, who came out on top with a winning score of 44 points.
The day also raised over £1,300 for the Senior Captain’s Charity, St. Petrock’s, thanks to a successful prize draw and the auctioning of golf vouchers. A huge thank you to everyone who donated prizes, including both members and local businesses. Thanks also to our events team and the Pro Shop for ensuring everything ran smoothly.

Men's Pro Am 2025
The Annual Club Pro-Am on 6th June saw 48 teams of amateur golfers teaming up with a PGA Professional to compete for a fantastic prize table.
The weather forecast was looking unsettled but despite a strong wind, it stayed fairly kind for the players. The golf course was in fantastic condition with many plaudits being received from both the amateurs and professionals.
It was a sponsors team from Lateram who won the team event led by professional Adam Harris, seen below being presented with the winners Titleist Custom Fit golf clubs by Men’s Captain James Mullins. The team recorded a fantastic score of 90pts.
The trio of Paul Hendrikson, Toby Hunt and Ali Balcombe won the professional individual prize with all three returning fine 3 under par 66’s.
Many thanks to all the kind volunteers that helped to ensure the day ran smoothly as well as all the players and our very generous sponsors. Thanks to everyone’s fantastic generosity including sponsorship, raffles, a silent auction and the putting competition around £5,000 was raised for the Hospiscare charity.

Ladies' Golf Captain's Day
Last Tuesday, 17th June, the Ladies Captain, Sara Beaven, hosted a key event in the Ladies golfing calendar. The full field of the golfers, of which over 70 ladies entered, were treated to a glorious sunny day with the course in great condition.
With some great scores posted the overall winner was Nicki Woolner with a fantastic stand out score of 46 points. Nicki is pictured below being presented with the trophy by the Ladies Captain.

An Exeter win against Exminster in the East Devon Golf League
On Saturday 21st June captain Jamie Broom took the selected East Devon Golf League squad members, with others involved in Club Championships, to Exminster Golf Club for the second round. The fixture proved to be a tough test and came down to the last match to decide the outcome.
Vice Captain Neil Whittaker commented “with the weather holding out and a very well presented course, it made for a great days golf. Exminster used their home advantage well which provided a very competitive set of matches, however, Exeter proved to be the stronger on the day coming away with the win. Well played to all the team members, especially earning the extra win bonus points by beating a home team”.
Result – Exeter win 3 – 2
Exeter Team – Jeff Densham, Jamie Broom (C), Paul Vicary, Neil Whittaker (VC), Simon Carter. Front Row : Ed Gallois, Dave Roddick, Pete Beaven, Simon Courtney, Badder Alfaresi

Still Cup
The Still Cup season opened with an away match against East Devon. It was a beautiful sunny day but sadly Exeter lost 1-6 against a very strong East Devon Team. However, the day was played in great spirit. The Ladies’ Golf Captain, Sara Beaven, commented that the carvery was worth the journey on its own!
The second match was again away against Stover. Another lovely day with great food but sadly another loss 5-2.
The look forward to our next matches against Saunton in the coming weeks with our first home match taking place on Friday.

An Exeter Win in the Inter Club Trophy
The Exeter Golf and Country Club Mixed Team travelled to Crediton on Sunday 22nd June to participate in the ‘Inter Club Trophy’. This is an annual event contested by Exeter, Crediton, Dainton and East Devon held at the club winning the trophy in the previous year. The format is mixed pairs 4BBB. Teams of 10 pairs with the top 8 scores being added together and the team with the highest amount of points winning the shield.
It looked set to be somewhat of a jinx as a few days before the event illness struck and Exeter had a number of players who unfortunately had to withdraw. Massive thanks goes to Carol Davies, Jenny Garner and Ed Gallios for stepping in at late notice to play for the team. The weather stayed dry and whilst humid with a breeze in the air some would say the conditions were perfect.
Team Exeter were led out by the pairing of Debbie and Lyndon Bent and saw debutant Ed Gallios (who unfortunately had to play as an individual) bringing us home. Thanks to some superb scores, notably from Clare and David Coates posting the highest scoring on the day with 48 points, including two 2’s carded by Clare, Exeter snatched the win beating Crediton into second place by 10 points. This was a fantastic achievement and brings the competition back to Exeter next year where we have a long history of home wins.
Men’s Vice Captain Justin Powlesland commented ‘massive thanks goes to Annie Norman for her organising as I know it was tough in the few days building up to the event and getting in players due to illness’.
If you are interested in playing in the future mixed events, whether you can come as a pair, or an individual, please let Justin Powlesland or Annie Norman know and we can keep you updated on fixtures.

Exe League
The Exe League team made the trip to a sun-soaked Tiverton on Sunday, 8th June 2025, for the second round of the competition. It was another strong showing from Exeter Golf & Country Club, finishing the day in a solid second place behind hosts Tiverton. This result keeps Exeter at the top of the league table with just two fixtures remaining: Woodbury on 20th July and East Devon on 21st September.

Dartmoor League - EGCC v Stover Sunday 1st June
Exeter faced a tough contest against Stover, one of the favourites this year for this competition. Due to a number of other matches including Palairet, and some on holiday, Exeter were missing a few regular players.
Despite a great battling performance the team were narrowly beaten with the matches finishing 2-3 in what was Exeter’s first home game of the season.
Stand in captain Jamie Broom and Tony Cockayne carding a great 5-4 win. The partnership of Tom Rowe and Jeff Densham also winning, 4-3.
Ollie Champion and Bobby Wickes had a great battle coming back from 5 down to just get pipped 2-1. Mark Champion and Paul Fielder also losing 2-1. Eddo and Patrick Williams also losing 3-1 in another close match.
Dartmoor League - The DML Shield Saturday 7th June
Exeters four man team travelled to Bovey Castle to compete in the DML Shield on what was a day of torrential rain. The captain’s armband for the day was handed to Bobby Wickes with John Bamford, James Kane and Ben Reynolds representing Exeter.
Due to the heavy and persistent rainfall, resulting in the greens starting to flood, the organisers were forced to change the format into a 9 hole competition.
With some excellent golf, including a few birdies, over the front 9 the team carded a fantastic score of 48 points. This proved enough to pip the unbeaten Bovey Castle team by one point and win the DML Shield for Exeter. Congratulations to the team!
Club President Golf Day for Ladies
On Tuesday 27th May the Club President, Adrian Hewitt, was delighted to welcome the Ladies section to compete for the silver salver. Adrian is pictured below at the halfway house with his wife, Sue, greeting the golfers and raising awareness of the Presidents Charity, Hospicare. On the day over £400 was donated by the ladies section.
The course was in fantastic condition and despite the persistent showery weather the competition was closely contested. The overall winner, on countback, was Caroline Norris with 38 points from Corinne Knowles in second place and Sarah Husband in third.
