Dartmoor League - Tavistock vs Exeter
Exeter travelled to Tavistock on Sunday 6th September on a dry and not too windy day. The team knew every point was now vital with the league very tight and any two sides could yet suffer relegation.
Amongst the matches there were a few tight games in this encounter. A good win for Ben Reynolds and Anthony Cockayne and a draw from Steve Sheldon and Darren Thorpe. Unfortunately the other three pairings, of Simon Courtney/Paul Fielder , Mark Champion/Jeff Densham and Justin Powlesland/Ali Jack, ended in defeat meaning that the overall result was a 3.5 to 1.5 defeat for Exeter.

Caught red-handed on the first floor of Wear Park… although, who doesn’t fancy a spa day on a rainy September morning?
Ginger has pretty much adopted the club as his pied-à-terre, despite having an actual home in Newcourt. He spends his days wandering the car parks, popping in and out of reception, snoozing by the outdoor pool, dropping into the studio for the odd yoga class… and even making himself at home in the offices.
Including, on one particularly cheeky occasion, five minutes very comfortably spent in the General Manager’s desk chair.
Today, he was spotted cruising up to the first floor, presumably on his way to the spa relaxation room. And honestly, we can’t blame him.
Perhaps it’s time to start a competition for the best sightings of our favourite feline friend?

Where there’s a will (or a rather large Victorian wall), there’s a way…
Getting our new outdoor sauna into the club wasn’t exactly a case of simply wheeling it through the gate. So, naturally, we got a 90 tonne crane to lift it right over the Victorian wall.
And now it’s officially in place.
Outdoor pool + outdoor sauna = the ultimate combo for autumn.
There’s still a little work to do before it’s ready for you - cold water shower, flooring, storage, planting and all the finishing touches to create the perfect space around it.
It won’t be long to wait.
Cooler mornings, crisp autumn air, a swim outside and straight into the warmth of the sauna.

SATURDAY MORNINGS WIN-WIN for you and the kids. 💪
Saturday Morning Junior Tennis is back which means while they’re busy on the courts, you get precious time to get a weekend workout done, relax in the sauna, treat yourself to a facial or enjoy catching up with friends.
Obviously, most importantly, what’s in it for them?
The LTA junior tennis courses give children the chance to get moving, learn new skills, build confidence and have plenty of fun on court.
Whether they’re picking up a racket for the first time or already love their tennis, our age-appropriate Red, Orange, Green and Yellow sessions help them develop their game, coordination, concentration and resilience, while making new friends along the way.
And let’s be honest… a Saturday morning that keeps them active while giving you a little time to yourself? Everyone wins.
Sessions for ages 4–8, 8–11 and 11+, with prices from £90.
Ready to get them on court? DM for the details.

A 100 year old former member has gifted his golf trophies from the 1940s to the club - swipe 👉 to read their story.
Earlier this year, we received a letter from Tony, who was a member of the Club as a child with his father, and later as an adult. While looking through his golfing keepsakes, he found a collection of trophies that had been won at the Club by both him and his dad.
The trophies date back to 1940 just before golf tournaments were suspended until after the Second World War.
Tony wanted to return the trophies to the club so after a couple of letters and then phone calls, he and his wife made the trip to the club to personally take them home, handing them over to our General Manager, Chris.
Tony loved his visit, finding it quite emotional, reminiscing about his younger years here at the club and remembering how it used to look over 80 years ago.
The trophies are a fascinating glimpse into Exeter Golf and Country Club’s history, particularly as several of the competitions are still played now and have been running since the 1920s.
The trophies have been cleaned up and will be added to the trophy cabinet near the Members Bar.
We’re delighted to have them at the club and so pleased that Tony got in touch.
