🇫🇷 Congratulations to Team France, winners of this year’s Squash & Racketball Summer Teams competition!
With this year’s tournament taking on a World Cup theme, France went unbeaten throughout the group stages before meeting Brazil in the final. A fantastic performance saw them win three of the four matches, securing the title with an overall score of 162–118.
Finals Night saw all eight teams back in action, with play-offs deciding every finishing position. A huge congratulations to winning captain Sue Trewin and everyone who took part over the past month – it’s been a brilliant competition from start to finish. 👏

Most golfers underestimate this hole... do you?
Legendary sports commentator, Steve Rider talks you through Hole 2 in the second video of our 18-hole course guide.
At 387 yards, this par 4 is far more challenging than the scorecard suggests. Avoid the fairway bunkers on the left, stay clear of the trees on the right, and think carefully about your approach into a well-protected green.
Our Director of Golf`s top tip: Take more club than you think on your approach shot!
Watch the reel, then head to our website to follow the full 18-hole course guide, written by @exetergcc.proshop and discover how to play every hole at Exeter Golf and Country Club with confidence.

That Wimbledon grunt? It’s not just for effect - there’s a reason for it.
It’s one of the simplest habits that separates the pros from most club players.
When the best players make contact with the ball, they’re breathing out. That famous grunt is simply the sound of a powerful exhale.
Why does it matter?
It keeps your body relaxed.
It helps you commit to every shot.
It creates better rhythm and timing.
It allows you to generate smoother, more controlled power.
So, as you watch Wimbledon this week - remember that grunt is the perfectly timed exhale to breathe out through the shot.
Try it - it might be the easiest change you make to improve your tennis. 🎾

When the temperatures rise, so does the work behind the scenes - it’s a 24/7 job to keep the golf course going at the moment.
Keeping our greens healthy through hot weather takes a combination of technology, experience and plenty of hands-on care.
7mm of water evaporates when the temperature hits 30 degrees!
Our irrigation system provides consistent overnight watering, while our greenkeeping team spends the day hand watering any localised dry areas that need extra attention.
On particularly hot days, you may also spot the sprinklers running briefly across the greens. This is known as syringing – a light application of water used to cool the turf and reduce plant stress, rather than to soak the ground.
This cools the surface temperature by 2 to 6 degrees temporarily.
Supported by our on-site borehole water supply and, most importantly, the dedication of our greenkeeping team, these practices help us maintain the high-quality playing surfaces our members and visitors enjoy throughout the summer.

Living in Devon, learning to swim isn’t just for fun - it’s a life skill.
As the only county in England with two coastlines, we’re never far from the sea. Add in our rivers, lakes and outdoor swimming spots, and it’s easy to see why water is such a big part of life here.
That’s why swimming is one of the greatest investments you can make in your child’s future.
First and foremost, it’s about safety. Every lesson helps children become more confident in and around water, equipping them with skills that could one day save their life - or someone else’s.
But swimming is about so much more than staying safe.
It’s one of the few activities that can stay with your child for life.
The confidence they build today could become a love of competitive swimming as a teenager, a way to stay fit and unwind as an adult, or a low-impact form of exercise that keeps them active and healthy well into later life.
That’s why learning to swim isn’t the finish line - it’s just the beginning.
Mastering all four strokes, refining technique, building stamina and becoming an efficient swimmer opens up a lifetime of opportunities.
Whether it’s enjoying holidays by the sea, swimming for fitness, taking on new challenges, or simply feeling confident wherever there’s water, those skills will stay with them forever.
LEARNING TO SWIM AT THE CLUB:
At Exeter Golf and Country Club, our heated pool, small-group, pair or individual lessons and supportive, experienced instructors, headed up by Dan our Head of Pools, help every child learn at their own pace. And with the opportunity to practise outside of lessons, they can continue building confidence every time they get in the water.
Because swimming isn’t just another after-school activity - it’s about confidence, independence, fitness. And water safety.
Most of all, it’s a skill for life.
DM for details or ask at Reception about the new swimming lesson courses in the holidays or next term.
