A win for Exeter against Okehampton Golf Club in the Dartmoor League

Dartmoor League – Exeter v Okehampton on Sunday 18th August.

Exeter faced last seasons champions Okehampton at Exeter in the DML on Sunday, Captained by Steve Sheldon in Justin Vinney’s absence. With three matches left in the league season and Okehampton being above Exeter in the league, this was a must win to maintain hopes of winning the title this season. The course was in excellent condition, playing firm and fast with the warm weather being perfect for golf. Exeter fielded a strong side despite some of the regular team members being absent, with DML debutants Martin Pitcher & David Hancock playing together. Okehampton brought a strong team in what proves to be a close contest between these clubs. The fixture didn’t disappoint with several matches going back and forth especially on the front 9. However, Exeter played solid golf across the pairings and ultimately proved too strong on the day with a comfortable 4 v 1 win setting up the last two fixtures nicely in the quest for the title. Stand out performance on the day was the debutants, dominating their match leading to a comfortable win.

The next match will be played at home on Sunday 25th August against Bovey Castle, in what could prove to be a decisive in winning the league title.

Match Day Pairings:

Mark Champion & Will Champion: Won 3&1

Steve Sheldon & Darren Thorpe: Won 3&2

Bobby Wickes & Justin Powlesland: Lost 5&3

James Kane & Patrick Williams: Won 3&1
