From boxing beginner to champ for Cancer Research UK

Three rounds in the ring with three unanimous wins, plus over £1K raised for Cancer Research UK – Head Chef, Adam Austin-Little’s debut boxing match was an all-round success – and the start of a new passion outside of the kitchen.

From first pulling on the boxing gloves last autumn at the initial Hatton Fight Club with Hatton Boxing Coach and Personal Trainer, Vince Mann, to stepping into the ring at the Ultra White Collar Boxing Night in July, Adam’s made huge progress in less than a year.

Anyone who’s ever tried boxing knows, you don’t progress without putting in the effort as well as the hours, and Adam has been fully committed – stepping up his training after signing up for the Cancer Research UK fundraising night.

Vince, who has been a Personal Trainer at the club for 18 months, and became a fully qualified Advance Hatton Boxing Coach in 2022, supported Adam on the night, explaining Adam’s success on the night was down him sticking to the game plan, sharp head movement, mastering the combinations and keeping foot forward pressure.

Vince said, ” Adam dominated the first round with power shots and put his opponent on the back foot, mixing up body shot combinations. In the second round he pushing for a standing count. In the final round, he pressed on in the same vein. Despite his competitor stepping up throwing some good counter punches, Adam’s hard training and fitness level paid off and he secured the win with a dominant performance. Of course, as his trainer, I am very proud of him and so impressed by the work he has put in! Hatton Boxing Academy is a great starting point for anyone interested in giving it a go – men and women of all ages are welcome and it’s been great to see so many progress through the levels. I’m looking forward to seeing who’s next to stick their head above the parapet and see where they can take the challenge.”

Adam progressed from the Hatton Academy group sessions with Vince, to individual one-on-one boxing coaching Personal Training sessions. His training programme featured:

An introduction to boxing fundamental knowledge,
Fitness, mobility, agility and stamina work
Circuit training and skipping sessions
Boxing rules
Boxing technique including stance and punches
Boxing combinations
Cycle sets, perpetual motion sets, cardio sets
Defence work – slips, sway, duck and weave, head and body blocks, shoulder roles, blocks and parry
Sparring
Equipment and fight fit preparation

Vince is available for both standard Personal Training as well as Hatton Boxing Academy for boxing fitness or for boxing coaching for an event.
