£4000 raised for St Petrocks
The Exeter Golf and Country Club Senior Men’s Golf Section raised £4,000 for St. Petrock’s, the Exeter-based charity supporting homeless people.
The amount was raised at events held over the season, including golf competitions, raffles and auctions.
Immediate Past Seniors Captain Paul Waite presented a cheque to Emma Jones from St. Petrock’s and said that it had been a very popular choice of charity with the members who had been extremely supportive and generous.
Emma responded by saying that this amount of money is extremely important to a small local charity and thanked the Exeter Golf and Country Club Seniors Committee and members for their tremendous support over the year.
Mixed Golf Winners
Last Sunday heralded the start of Mixed Golf with an American Foursomes competition. Playing over 13 holes in fine weather a healthy number of pairs took part. Prize giving was held in a packed Wear Park and hosted by Ladies Vice Captain, Claire Baillie. Thanks go to Lydia Powlesland for organising and preparing the prize table. Congratulationsto the winning pair (pictured) of Gavin Roberts and Isla Roberts -Shorer, scoring 31 points.
Victory Bowl – Dawlish Warren v Exeter
Last Sunday Dawlish Warren hosted the second leg of the prestigious Victory Bowl, the first leg having taken place at Exeter in May.
Going into the second leg Exeter’s James Mullins and Justin Powlesland were one hole down in the Captains/Vice Captains match. In the team matches Exeter took a slender 3 – 2 lead into the away leg.
Following a two minute silence, for Remembrance Sunday, the Captains/Vices match got the second leg underway. The weather forecast threatened heavy rain with strong winds and it was long before this became reality, as the pairs matches followed on.
The Exeter side, featuring a few changes to the pairings from the first leg, knew the matches would be highly competitive. Despite battling the elements it was Dawlish Warren, fielding a strong side featuring mainly single figure handicappers (their Palairet Team), who proved too strong on the day and eventually winning the leg 3.5 to 1.5 and overall 5.5 to 4.5 to retain the Victory Bowl. In the Captains and Vices match Dawlish also came out on top winning 3 & 1 overall.
Junior Golf Prize Evening
Over 70 young golfers and families celebrated the success of the junior section throughout 2025 on Tuesday!
A big thank you to Mark Champion who, after four years, handed over the role of Junior Organiser to Jon & Karen Bunt.
The Golf Captains, Sara and James, were on hand to present the trophies and prize vouchers. Olly Champion gave a fantastic outgoing speech as Junior Captain and now hands over to Josh Murphy with Seb Rothwell taking over as Vice Captain.
Congratulations to the winners of all the trophies and a big well done to all our junior golfers, from those just starting out, to those smashing it on the course!
