Squash member, Ioan, set for the World Championships

European Success for Ioan Sharpe

Ioan Sharpe, Exeter Golf & Country Club’s top junior player and coach, has had a very successful couple of months on the European Junior Circuit which has culminated with him rising to Number 5 in the European U19 rankings. Ioan has travelled extensively throughout Europe during February and March, winning the Slovenian Open and Welsh National’s and also reaching the Final of the German Open and the Semi Final of the French Open, two of the most prestigious tournaments on the tour.

Ioan has also just returned from the European Championships in Romania, representing Wales, where he finished in the top 10 in the European Individuals and led Wales as their Number 1 to the Quarter Finals (finishing 6th overall) in the Teams event. Having played 13 matches in only 9 days, Ioan played in every single match, winning most. Having lost almost a stone in weight over the 9 days (yes, squash is a very physical sport), Ioan is now enjoying a very well earned rest before his next tournaments in Italy, Holland and the World Championships in Texas in July.

Ioan has been a member at Exeter Golf & Country Club since moving to Exeter at the age of 6. Ioan has been supported over the years by his coach, Mike Harris, and other members who’ve helped him to hone his craft. Ioan is also a qualified coach, helping Mike to coach the next generation of juniors.
