Exeter Foodbank fundraiser

Vic Fox, the 2021/22 Club President at Exeter Golf and Country Club presented a cheque for £4424 to Exeter Foodbank, following a year of fundraising for for the local charity.

Vic chose Exeter Foodbank as his charity of the year in recognition of the help they provide to local families in need. One in five people in the UK live in poverty and during the past year, Exeter Foodbank has experienced a greater demand from families from all walks of life, across the city.

Vic said, “At the start of my year as Club President I decided that I would support Exeter Foodbank through a variety of fundraising events. The generosity of the members of this great club has meant that over £4,600 has been raised so far (including a £300 donation made separately at the beginning of the year).  This has exceeded my expectations as originally I just hoped to raise around £1,500.”

The cheque was presented to Karen Cleave, who’s both a member of Exeter Golf and Country Club and on the Management Board of Exeter Foodbank.  At the Club President’s Dinner in January, Karen explained that this amount would enable Exeter Foodbank to purchase foodstuffs that can’t usually be donated but are so beneficial from a nutritional point of view such as cheese or other fresh foods.

As the new Club Presidential year starts in February, another charity has been selected for the fundraising in the year ahead. The role of Club President in 2022/3 will be a collaborative effort between Vic and previous Club Presidents who have agreed to raise funds for Hospiscare.
