First leg - Victory Bowl - 80th Anniversary - 11th May
The Victory Bowl is one of the most precious of competitions between Exeter and Dawlish. Born at the end of a World War II, from a local rivalry between 2 servicemen from each club to commentate VE Day. This year is the 80th Anniversary of the trophy.
Five pairs from each club compete for the Victory Bowl and the Captains and Vice Captains both play together for a separate hard fought trophy. Both Trophies take place over 36 holes, home and away.
Dawlish came to Exeter with some very good golfers, 2 of which were plus handicaps and all but 4 of their team were under 7 in handicap but Exeter put out a strong Matchplay side. Plenty of shots at home proved the order of the day and despite the rain the Exeter team proved too strong for Dawlish. The match result was 3.5 to 1.5 to Exeter and the individual results are as follows;
James Mullins and Justin Powlesland – 1 hole down
Simon Courtney and Ben Reynolds – Halved
Simon House and Ian Lake – Won by 1 hole
Andy Rockey and Tom Rowe – lost by 2 holes
Dave Hancock and Dave Robinson – Won 4&3
Pat Williams and Jock Clark – Won 5&3
James Mullins would like to thank all that took part, this puts Exeter in a really good position to try and bring the trophy back to Exeter in September. 👊

Dartmoor League 25th Year
On Sunday 4th May Exeter had the pleasure of hosting the League’s 25 year anniversary team competition. The format for play being a version of Texas Scramble known as Las Vegas Scramble. For those unfamiliar with the format this involves all four team players hitting their tee shot. Then rolling a die to decide which shot is taken. Each player having a number from 1 to 4, with numbers 5 and 6 teams could choose anyone’s shot. Play then resumes as a scramble for the rest of the hole.
On a very sunny and hot Sunday the Exeter team made up of Simon Courtney, Ed Gallois, Tom Rowe and Ben Edwards recorded a round that included 7 birdies and 11 pars, playing off a combined handicap of 7. A fantastic round of 55 (14 under) carded.
Unfortunately this proved not quite enough with one of the last teams out, Bovey Castle, securing the win and just pipping Exeter. Exeter’s Captain, Simon Courtney, commented what a great day of golf it had been and thanked the Mens Golf Captain, James Mullins, for hosting the 4th hole challenge and in doing so raising several hundred pounds toward this year’s charity, Hospiscare Exeter.
