Report by the 2023 Ladies’ Golf Captain, Vicki Rogers
Sixty-three ladies played 18 holes in the 2023 Ladies Captain’s Day on Tuesday 20th June, with a further 7 ladies entering the 9-hole competition.
The forecast lightning failed to follow the sat nav and fortunately, with only a couple of showers, all players were able to complete their round. This was a great relief for me, as there might have been a lot of delicious Ryders Bakery sausage rolls and cakes left over if the competition had been cancelled!
Our 8th hole refreshment table also had some chocolate goodies, very kindly donated by Chris Toft, and my lovely assistants, Captain Geoff and husband Barry, were very adept at removing sausage rolls from the oven and pouring Prosecco – some of which they offered to ladies! Away from the limelight though fundamental in the smooth running of our events, were Lisa Newbury and Darren plus team. Thank you all.
Mary White was our Overall Winner, with a clear 6-point lead.  I understand Mary had her best round ever and was so excited to have won the trophy that she couldn’t sleep that night! I hope regular sleep has now returned, Mary.
Huge thanks to everyone who donated to RD&E Charity on the day. Those donations have not yet been counted by the charity staff, though the total will be announced when I have the figure.
The presentation, following play, was well attended giving Mary, our 9-hole winner, Sylvia Audin, and all our prize winners well-deserved support and applause.
