Men's Annual Pro Am

On Friday 5th June, Exeter Golf and Country Club proudly hosted its 49th Annual Pro-Am, welcoming 45 teams to compete in one of the South West’s premier golfing events.

The course was presented in outstanding condition and provided a superb test for both professionals and amateurs alike. With sponsors supporting every hole, the club was buzzing from start to finish, creating a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day.

A huge thank you must go to the volunteers who gave up their time to help make the event such a success. From ball spotting around the course, running the putting green competition, selling raffle tickets and assisting competitors throughout the day, their efforts were invaluable.

Most importantly, the event was held in support of the Golf Captains’ chosen charity, Balloons, raising approximately £6,000 to help support bereaved children and young people across our local community.

PROFESSIONAL RESULTS
Congratulations to Toby Hunt, who produced a stunning performance to win the Professional Event with a course-record score of 5-under-par.
Second place was shared by Kev Harper and Paul Hendriksen, who both finished on an impressive 4-under-par.

TEAM RESULTS
The winning team was sponsored by Heavitree Brewery and consisted of:
Kev Harper (Professional)
Craig Derrick
Luke Crocker
Elliott Frear
Congratulations to all four players on a fantastic victory.

EXETER PROFESSIONALS
The leading Exeter Golf & Country Club professionals were Dave Cockayne and Ryan Pope, who both finished on 2-over-par, representing the club admirably against a strong regional field.

EVENING CELEBRATIONS
Following the golf, players, sponsors, members and guests enjoyed a fantastic evening of entertainment with live music from Just Us. The atmosphere throughout the clubhouse was exceptional, with celebrations continuing long into the night and providing the perfect finish to a memorable day.

Men’s Golf Captain, Justin Powlesland said, “A sincere thank you to all players, sponsors, volunteers, staff and supporters who helped make the 49th Pro-Am such a tremendous success. We are already looking forward to celebrating the milestone 50th Pro-Am next year!”

Parker Trophy

The Exeter Golf & Country Club Parker Trophy team travelled to a very damp and foggy Yelverton Golf Club to play the second round against Churston Golf Club.  Although it was the 11th June, you would have thought it was January as it was cold and wet but the lads were in great spirits and ready to play. The Parker Trophy is a scratch foursomes match-play competition usually played by some of the lowest handicap golfers so is a tough competition to try and progress in.

The strong Exeter team were confident of getting a result and included the following pairs: Harrison Greenberry & Adam Hull / Scott Collins & Alex Worthington / Simon House & Stu Jose

The matches all went off to a great start with Si & Stu going 4 up through 6 and Scott & Alex going 3 up through 7 but the Churston team fought back, and it was all nip and tuck. Harry and Adam managed to win the first match 2&1, closely followed by Scott & Alex 3&2. Si & Stu were 1 up and in a commanding position coming down the 16th but as the match was over they were called in.

Mens Captain, Justin Powlesland, said ‘It was absolutely brilliant to watch the lads in action and every one of them was superb. It was great to see them progress to the quarter finals but we know we will have an extremely tough match against either Stover or East Devon. I have every confidence in the team and hope that they progress to finals day on 30

Palairet - Exeter V Honiton

The Exeter Golf & Country Club Palairet team travelled to Sidmouth on Sunday 7th June for their 2nd round match against Honiton.

Rain was forecast but that certainly didn’t dampen the team spirit as everyone was up for a tough match, against an excellent team on a tough course.

Team Exeter had 4 palairet debutants in Rodin MacKay, Bobby Wickes, Jonny Fairman and Badder Alfaresi. The team selected was based on form, the course and who we felt would work well together in the 4somes pairings, which is a very hard format.

We were very pleased that the rain that was forecast, didn’t arrive which left the lads to just concentrate on the golf.

The pairings were extremely well matched up with no shots in the first match, we were giving one shot in each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th matches and receiving 1 shot in the 5th match.

The pairings were as follows;

Simon House & Badder Alfaresi – lost 1 down
George Burningham & Wayne Chant – won 1 up
Rodin MacKay & Bobby Wickes – lost 2 down
Neil Woolfrey & Fester – won 3&2
James Mullins & Jonny Fairman – won 1 up

Overall result: Exeter 3 v 2 Honiton

Captain Justin Powlesland said; “the matches were all played to a high level and they were all very close. We know the Honiton team well and knew they would be good but luckily, we managed to match them all the way. Massive thanks to James Mullins for stepping in at the last minute and hitting a brilliant shot into the 18th in the last match to win us the tie. Thanks also to Neil Woolfrey and Neil Whittaker for their help with the team.”

The 3rd round will be on Sunday 5th July against Stover but we are waiting on the venue to be drawn.

In a closely contested competition, Exeter emerged victorious, successfully retaining the Hamish Marshall Trophy and finishing just two points ahead of hosts Downes Crediton.

Downes Crediton – 159 points
Exminster – 156 points

Team skipper Jamie Broom praised the squad’s performance:

“I’m incredibly proud of the team today. Not only have we retained the trophy, but we’ve done so against a very strong Crediton side on their home course. This result gives our season real momentum. We’re in a strong position in the league, with another cup competition still to come. There was a fantastic atmosphere among the players throughout the day, and this trophy is a reward for the efforts of the entire squad. Congratulations to everyone involved, and thank you for your contribution to another memorable success.”
