Palairet Trophy 3rd Round – Exeter v Stover
On Sunday 5th July, the Exeter Golf & Country Club Palairet team travelled to a very hot Tavistock to play in the 3rd round of the trophy against Stover.
The team had all played well on the practice round on the Tuesday so were feeling confident. When the team sheet came out, the Exeter team were giving shots in all the matches except one whereby no shots were being given.
The lads went off well and the course was in great condition but we knew that it was going to be a tough day. As good as the greens were, they looked a lot quicker than they actually were which meant that a lot of putts were coming up short which was frustrating some of the team.
After a long, hot day, the scores were:
Scott Collins & Alex Worthington lost 3&2
Adam Hull & Rodin MacKay won 6&4
George Burningham & Wayne Chant won 3&2
Si House & Badder Alfaresi lost 2&1
Stu Jose & Fester lost 3&2
Adam Hull & Rodin MacKay won 6&4
George Burningham & Wayne Chant won 3&2
Si House & Badder Alfaresi lost 2&1
Stu Jose & Fester lost 3&2
It was a great effort but unfortunately we came up short, losing the match 3-2. Mens Captain, Justin Powlesland, said, ‘It’s been an absolute privilege captaining the Palairet team this year. The lads have all shown a great team spirit and a togetherness which has been so good to be part of. I want to thank all the guys that have played in the Palairet or been a reserve. It’s a real shame that we couldn’t go further in the competition but Stover are a fantastic team and I wish them all the best for the next round.’
