Golf Captains fund a new bike for Devon Freewheelers

The 2022 Golf Captains, Steve Sheldon and Christine Norton presented a cheque for £17,000 to their charity of the year, Devon Freewheelers, aka Bloodbikes, on Sunday 19th February.

A grand total of £16,877 was raised across a year of events organised by the Men’s and Ladies’ Golf Committees, ranging from golf tournaments to dinners, live music nights to coffee mornings.

Having worked closely with the volunteers at Devon Freewheelers, the  Men’s Golf Captain, Steve, was keen to raise enough money to fund a motorbike for the charity, so with his wife, Lynn, topped up the total to reach £17,000.

The final event took place on Sunday with 110 golfers taking part.

Bloodbikes volunteers, Jim Robinson and  Vikki Finney received the cheque and stated that they were overwhelmed by the entire golf section members generosity.  They plan to use the money towards a new or a used motorbike to support their existing volunteer services.

Devon Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service is a team of volunteer GMP trained Riders and GMP trained Drivers, Call Handlers and Fundraisers who are dedicated to providing a 24 hrs a day 7 days a week service. The charity supports the NHS in delivering essential whole blood, blood and other medical samples, medication, patient notes, medical equipment,  tissue samples and donor breast milk to hospitals, air ambulances and other NHS establishments and even to patients homes throughout Devon.
