The past weekend we were proud to host the prestigious England Squash Silver Open here at Exeter Golf & Country Club 🏆
With only a handful of Silver events held across the country each year, the tournament attracted some of the top junior squash talent in the UK. Over 120 junior players competed across two venues — Exeter Golf & Country Club and Devon & Exeter Squash Club — creating an exciting two days of high-level competition.
Players travelled from all over the UK, with some even flying in from Jersey and Guernsey, and many arriving on Friday evening to get some extra training in before the event began.
The tournament featured boys’ and girls’ age groups from U9 to U19, including several players who represent their national teams. Most draws included 16+ players, with the U13 Boys draw reaching 26 competitors.
We were delighted to have 7 EGCC juniors representing the club (5 boys and 2 girls), many of whom were competing against the highest level of opposition they’ve faced in tournament play. There were also over a dozen Devon juniors taking part, who train regularly at the club with our resident coach Steve Mooney.
The standout results for EGCC were two fantastic 4th place finishes, after some incredible matches and hard-fought semi-final battles 💪
A big thank you to Devon & Exeter Squash Club for co-hosting such a fantastic event, and to all the players, parents and supporters who made the weekend such a success.
👏 We look forward to welcoming more events like this in the future!
