A win-win – transitioning from petrol to electric

From encouraging wildlife to constantly improving the ways we work on the golf course, our Greenkeeping Team are always looking for ways to reduce our impact on the environment.

When the opportunity came up to trade in an old diesel machine as credit towards investing in a new eco-friendly range of landscaping equipment for the Greenkeepers, it was too good to miss.

Working with Devon Garden Machinery, Peter Ashleford, our in-house mechanic, has replaced the gas-guzzling, two-stroke petrol tools with greener cordless battery equipment – reducing our carbon footprint and emissions.

As well as zero emissions, there are many other benefits too, from reduced vibration for users, to greatly reduced noise levels, cheaper running and maintenance costs, improved safety and much greater versatility.  Last year, it was reported that the Government is under pressure to ban all petrol-powered garden tools by 2025, so it is likely that future regulations may be proposed to phase out or limit their use in favor of more eco-friendly alternatives.

John Parr, Golf Course Manager said, “We are delighted to take another step towards being the most environmentally-friendly golf course we can be. Small changes like this all help take us in that direction and keep us progressing. Thank you to Pete, and Devon Garden Machinery for arranging it.”

The new Husqvarna equipment is all cordless electric and includes a chainsaw, telescopic pole saw, hedge trimmer and charging station.
