Exeter Golf and Country Club to Welcome Local Primary Schools for Tennis Skills Festival
Exeter Golf and Country Club will welcome 59 pupils from local primary schools on Thursday 18 June for the Exeter and Mid Devon School Games Year 3 and 4 Tennis Skills Festival.
The event, organised by St Luke’s School Games as part of the Devon School Games programme, will bring together children from Montgomery Primary School, Bowhill Primary School, Hayward’s Primary School and Trinity School for a morning of fun, learning and physical activity.
Hosted at Exeter Golf and Country Club on Topsham Road, the festival will focus on introducing children to the fundamentals of tennis in a fun, inclusive and non-competitive environment. Through a variety of skills-based activities, pupils will have the opportunity to develop basic tennis techniques, improve their movement skills and build confidence on court.
The festival is aimed at Year 3 and 4 pupils and has been designed to provide a positive experience for children who may not have previously represented their school in sporting events. The emphasis will be on participation, enjoyment and personal development rather than competition.
Sessions will be delivered by a local tennis coach, helping to ensure every child enjoys a high-quality introduction to the sport.
James Temple, Head of Rackets at Exeter Golf and Country Club, said:
“We are delighted to be hosting the Tennis Skills Festival and welcoming local schools to the Club. Tennis is a fantastic sport for developing confidence, coordination and teamwork, and this event will give children the opportunity to learn new skills in a supportive and enjoyable environment. We look forward to introducing more young people to the game and supporting the important work St Luke’s does through the School Games programme.”
The School Games programme aims to create positive experiences through sport and physical activity, helping young people develop physically, socially and emotionally while encouraging lifelong participation in exercise.
Exeter Golf and Country Club is proud to support initiatives that inspire children to get active, try new sports and enjoy the many benefits of physical activity.
