Devon Junior Golf Championships

The 2026 Devon Golf Junior Championships at Honiton Golf Club proved to be a memorable event for Exeter Golf and Country Club, with our juniors delivering a series of outstanding performances against some of the county’s most talented young golfers.

Representing clubs from across Devon, competitors faced a stern test in hot conditions on a course presented in excellent condition. Despite the challenge, Exeter GCC’s juniors rose to the occasion and did both themselves and the club proud.

The standout success came in the Under-12 Championship, where Exeter GCC players claimed four of the seven championship prize-winning positions:

Oscar Bunt – Overall Champion and 1st Gross
Grace Hong – 1st Stableford
Isla Roberts-Shorer – 2nd Stableford
Archie Askew – 2nd Stableford

There was further success for the club in the older age groups, with Josh Murphy producing an excellent performance to finish 8th in the highly competitive 36-hole championship event.

The winners are photographed with Exeter Golf and Country Club member Roger Worthington, President of Devon Golf, and Brian Newman, Devon Golf’s Director of Development.

Exeter GCC Director of Golf Darren Everett said: “We are incredibly proud of the performances of our junior golfers in events across the county. The success of our Junior Golf Academy, together with the hard work and dedication of our junior organisers Karen and Jon Bunt, is at the heart of these achievements. It is fantastic to see our young players performing so well in major competitions at such an early age. The future looks very bright.”

Junior Organiser Jon Bunt added: “The conditions were demanding, with high temperatures testing every competitor throughout the day. However, our juniors not only demonstrated outstanding golfing ability but also exemplary course etiquette and sportsmanship. As both Junior Organiser and a parent, it was immensely rewarding to witness the success of our home-grown talent. Their achievements are a testament to the hard work, dedication and positive culture within our junior section, and everyone at the club should be incredibly proud of them.”
