Devon Captains Presidents Trophy

Exeter Sweep the Board at Devon Captains Presidents Trophy

Exeter Golf & Country Club proudly hosted the prestigious Devon Captains Presidents Trophy on Thursday 7th May 2026, welcoming almost 80 Past Captains from clubs across Devon to compete for three trophies in a fantastic day of golf and hospitality.

With the newly developed 2026 course presented in immaculate condition and sunshine throughout the day, visitors were full of praise for both the course and the club’s facilities. The Golf Operations team and greenkeeping staff worked tirelessly to ensure the event was delivered to the highest standard, with the Pro Shop receiving excellent feedback for their hospitality and organisation.

Leading the Exeter challenge were Past Captains Darren Thorpe, Geoff Pascoe and Steve Sheldon, who teed off early amongst a strong field of county representatives.

After an enjoyable day of competitive golf and plenty of good humour, the Exeter trio finished their rounds unaware of the remarkable success that was about to unfold at the evening presentations in the Duckworth Suite.

The first award of the evening was the Veterans Trophy for players aged over 65. Exeter’s Geoff Pascoe, Captain in both 1996 and 2024, secured an excellent second place finish with 34 Stableford points.

Exeter then claimed the Team Trophy for the highest combined three-player score from any Devon club, with Geoff Pascoe, Darren Thorpe and Steve Sheldon achieving an outstanding aggregate total of 105 points.

The evening concluded with the presentation of the prestigious Andrew Bowl Presidents Trophy for the best individual score of the day. Exeter’s Darren Thorpe finished third with 34 points, while Steve Sheldon, Exeter Captain in 2022, produced the only under par round of the competition to win the trophy with an exceptional 37 Stableford points.

The players spoke proudly about representing Exeter and highlighted the many positive comments received from visitors regarding the quality of the new course and facilities.

Special thanks go to Exeter Past Captain and Devon Captains Secretary Ian Black for organising such a successful event, along with Darren, Lisa and all the Golf and Food & Beverage teams who ensured the day was enjoyed by everyone involved.

Congratulations to Geoff, Darren and Steve on a fantastic achievement and a memorable day for Exeter Golf & Country Club.
