Welcome
The Ladies’ Golf Committee, on behalf of the Ladies’ Golf Membership, is delighted that you have joined. Our aim is for you to enjoy every part of our amazing club, which was founded in 1895. To help you settle in, we wish to share some information that you may find helpful.
If you have agreed for your details to be passed to the Ladies’ Golf Captain, she will be in touch soon – though please bear with her, sometimes it takes a week or two for the information to be sent.
Alternatively, please feel free to contact the Ladies’ Golf Captain or any of the Ladies’ Golf Committee Members through the Intelligent Golf app – more on that later! We can arrange a game or two, or more, with you and introduce you to other members. Whether you are a fully-fledged golfer moving here from another club, or working towards your official handicap, we are here for you.
Golf Room
The ladies’ golf room and changing facilities are in the basement of Wear Park. From the putting green, take the right-hand set of stairs down. You can also access them via the right -hand stairs inside Wear Park. Tap your member card to access them – in most cases you don’t even need to take the card out of your wallet!
The Golf Room noticeboard displays the current Ladies’ Golf Captain and Committee – you can also find them on Intelligent Golf.
Competitions
The ladies’ golf competitions run on Tuesdays for golfers with a handicap index. Additionally, we arrange Alternate Day Competitions on some Sundays for those unable to play on Tuesdays.
Sign-up for social golf and most Tuesday competitions is open from 7.30am the preceding week. Club policy is that any member may put their name down with any other player – so please do not be shy, we are confident that you will be given a warm welcome by your fellow players, especially when they learn you are new to the club.
We currently send a weekly Competition Update via email, with a hard copy published on the noticeboard – to highlight special dates, how to sign-up for drawn competitions, Handicap Index Limits, entry cost and other information.
Fixtures
The current Ladies’ Fixture List can be found on the noticeboard in our Golf Room. In addition to our Tuesday Ladies’ Day, there are normally tee times available daily for social golf throughout the week, with men’s competitions held on Saturdays.
The Ladies’ Golf Section and the club also have many exciting events over the year with several Opens, two ProAms (Club and Ladies’), Ladies’ Friendly matches, Mixed InterClub Friendlies (that is, where male and female golfers play against men and women mixed teams from other clubs), and teams are entered for Devon Golf Interclub matches – there is never a dull moment! This gives lots of opportunities to play competitive golf, if that appeals to you.
Your Membership
Your golf membership also includes use of the swimming pools, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, as well as discounted food and drink when using your member card in the Members’ Bars, Wear Park Restaurant and on treatments at Wear Park Spa, plus special rates for room bookings for private events. Please top up your member card online – via the Exeter Golf and Country Club app.
Apps
Intelligent Golf (IG) is used for everything golf related at the club and for signing up to almost all club golf events. The Exeter Golf and Country Club app is the ‘go to’ for everything ‘club’ related, including a directory of other members, fitness classes bookings and more.
Intelligent Golf App information
Exeter Golf and Country Club App – Google Play
Exeter Golf and Country Club App – App Store
The Exeter Golf and Country Club app contains a directory of all members and, initially, all your personal details will be hidden. The choice is yours on whether you show some or all of your personal details, though please remember that if you do not show a form of communication the Ladies’ Golf Committee and other members may not have the means to contact you, if you do not use IG messaging.
It is also important to ensure settings on the IntelligentGolf app are set correctly to receive emails from the Director of Golf, including our weekly Competitions Update. If you are unsure how to achieve this please ask the Pro Shop for assistance.
It is easy to use on computer and also has an app for mobile devices. There is a small annual charge for the app but it is worth it for the benefits you then get.
After downloading the app ‘igMember’, from the App Store on an iPhone or Google Play for Android phones, please follow the on-screen instructions and set your club to Exeter Golf and Country Club. If you have any issues setting up IG please feel free to ask for assistance in the Pro Shop, or contact one of the Ladies’ Golf Committee members – if we don’t know the answer we promise to find someone who does.
IG allows you to message other golf members – whether that is to arrange a social round or apologise if you have to withdraw from an arranged game.
The IG app is the accepted default for arranging games and knockout matches. Additionally, results from all club organised competitions appear on IG, so you can see how well you played against the rest of the field! At a glance you should be able to see course information, your handicap index, booked tee times, competitions entered, opponents in Knockouts, the club diary, results and easy access to the messaging system and handicap directory.
Additionally, you can find information for Ladies’competitions; General Terms of Competitions, Competitions Formats, Competition Catalogue and Ladies’ Knockout Competition Rules. These documents are also available to view in the Ladies’ Golf Room on the desk.
The club and Pro Shop send regular emails too, so make sure you check your inbox (initially emails may land in junk so check there and mark them as safe).
The Pro Shop is a great source of useful information as well as everything you may need on the course, including the Ladies’ Golf ‘club colour’ clothing – black trousers, white polo shirts with the club logo and blue jumpers.
We look forward to meeting you very soon. In the meantime, please fill a space for the next Tuesday or Sunday competition and maybe take a look at the noticeboard to find the latest Competition Update and Fixture List.
If you need any help, before the Ladies’ Golf Captain makes contact with you, please send us an IG message or ask the team in the Pro Shop to send one of us an email with your contact details.
With best wishes from
the Ladies’ Golf Committee
