Golf Captains Newsletter

Wow! What a start to the season.

The weather has been really kind to us, and we’ve been able to get the season underway in super quick time. I hope you will agree the course is currently in great shape, the best it has been for some time.

Well done to John Parr and his team, so many members have commented to me, now the grass is growing, about how good the course now looks.

Hopefully, you are all getting our news updates, if not, please make sure you’ve subscribed to the Club Member Emails, so you’re able to keep in touch with everything that is going on.

Happy Golfing…

James Mullins
Men’s Captain

First OOM of the Year

Due to the weather, the Bradely Rowe on Saturday 2nd became the first OOM of the season, well done to all those that shot under par, the greens were extremely rapid, and the weather was fantastic. Well done to Chris Curtis who won the Trophy with a stunning nett 64!

Calling all New Members

I am very conscious that we have many new members joining at this time of year and so would like to invite you to the ‘Ball Draw’ on Fridays where we hold the sign-up draw for the following weeks Men’s competition. We start the draw at 6.30pm but most get there a little early to socialise and catch up on the week just gone. I would be happy to introduce new members to each other and to existing members of a similar handicap so that they can integrate into the section. Please feel free to email me or the Pro Shop if you wish to attend. During June I am hoping to have an evening where we can introduce ourselves to you properly, look out of the updates on that.

TEAMS UPDATE

We are lucky to have a really strong and successful team setup here at Exeter Golf and Country Club and the Parker Trophy Team (Devon Scratch Pairs Knockout Trophy) who successfully negotiated a tricky match against Holsworthy at Okehampton Golf Club.

The men and the ladies took on Exminster in the British Mixed Matchplay Championship and won 3.5 – 1.5. We now have another home draw against China Fleet in the next round. Go Exeter!

MORE NEWS

Ladies have found their Vice!

I am thrilled for the Ladies’ section that they have found their Vice in Claire Baillie, who I would like to extend my congratulations to and wish her the very best for the remainder of this year and next year, her Captain’s year.

Course Changes

We are hoping to have a digital booklet available for all members to view the upcoming the course changes, within the next couple of weeks. This will be distributed via email to golf members by Darren Everett. I know a lot of members would like to understand the changes in more detail, and this will give you all the information you need.

New Flags and Holes

In addition to the new course layout, the club are committed to making improvements to the course furniture. This will start in the next couple of weeks with some new cups and inserts, as well as new flag poles and quality flags on the course, SGA and practices putting greens. Once the new course changes have been made, all tee markers, tee signs, ball washer and bin stations will also be upgraded.

Last, but not least, huge congratulations to Roger Worthington who became President of Devon Golf in May for the start of his 2-year tenure. Roger has been Performance Director for the last few years. Good luck Roger!
