Within that, the Junior Golf Passport is the national structured learning programme for children aged 6-14 years, endorsed by the PGA. The multi-layered programme offered by PGA Golf Professional Darren Everett and his team, progresses a complete novice golfer into a junior golfer ready for golf membership.

Decided by the board of training and development at the PGA, the Advanced Professional status is awarded on account of professional career, playing achievements, coaching achievements, professional roles held at clubs, other roles held within golf, in Darren’s case this includes the Devon PGA Captain and Devon PGA Vice Chairman, community work, schools programmes, performance roles, which includes Exeter College and Exeter University, plus involvement in growing the game of golf such as junior academy and Get into Golf programmes.
Benefits of golf for children
Social skills, hand-to-eye co-ordination, fresh air, family time and low impact exercise – there are just a few reasons to get your child into golf.
Golf encourages friendships and we know from our long-term members, those friendships can last a lifetime. It teaches about right and wrong in a safe environment and it’s an equal playing field. No matter your fitness, size or shape, you can learn to play. Darren Everett and his team of pro golfers have developed many youngsters into becoming great golfers. Recognised by England Golf for their progressive junior golf coaching, Darren and his team were selected for the launch of the recent Girls’ Can Golf campaign in the South West. Our junior golf coaching adheres to the PGA Junior Golf Passport programme.
Exeter Golf and Country Club has been home to a number of the UK’s best young golfers recently including the British Boys Champion and the ICT National Champion.
Ask about our new Family Golf Coaching sessions where you can learn with your child. We often find parents taking up the sport after their children have as it provides a great way to spend a few hours together each week having uninterrupted fun!
Junior Golf Academy
The Junior Golf Passport programme is offered within the Junior Golf Academy at Exeter Golf and Country Club. There are 3 key levels: START, LEARN and PLAY.
The START level is all about fun and an elementary introduction to golf.
The LEARN level is a move towards technical instruction through games based learning, always with the emphasis on fun.
The PLAY level teaches the child to apply their learning to the golf course, preparing them for potential club membership and competition.
Access to the golf course and playing golf on a course are important features of the Junior Golf Passport from the start in order to develop a real connection to golf.
Private coaching is also available, as well as group junior golf sessions on Thursday
evenings in the summer months and Saturday mornings all year-round.
Juniors have a weekly roll-up competition on a Tuesday afternoon for both handicap and non-handicap golfers. They also have structured competitions throughout the year and friendly matches against other local clubs.
When and where
Children’s golf lessons take place on the putting green, our short game area and Topsham Golf Academy.
