As usual the Seniors’ season started off with the ‘fun’ competition of the Hercules Trophy using three clubs and a putter.
The weather was kind but cold and there was a good turnout of 48 players, slightly more than last year. The Trophy was won by one of our new senior members, John Cossey, playing off a handicap of 8, who scored 39 points and won because of a better back nine holes.
It has to be mentioned that he beat another member who also scored 39 and is the oldest competing senior, aged 89! However he has to be nameless because not only did he score 39 points but had forgotten his putter and used a wood for this purpose! As he said, ‘It is not the club that matters but how you use it!’
