Exeter Golf and Country Club is celebrating record new member numbers between April 2012 and now, with an increase of 45% on the same period the previous year.
The New Year is always a busy time for leisure venues such as Exeter Golf and Country Club, and this year was no exception with an increase in new members joining between December and now of over 210%
Over the past three years, Exeter Golf and Country Club has invested in its facilities, staff training and marketing and there has been a direct correlation in the new member results. Since 2008, the number of new members per year has increased by over 427%
Martin Halse, General Manager said, “We are delighted about this boost to our membership. Exeter Golf and Country Club has always been about providing an excellent experience for our members whether they are here to enjoy time with friends and family, train for competitions or achievements, get fit, improve their sporting skills or hold business or personal events. We are unique in that the club is owned by the members and operates entirely for the members. Every penny of revenue is re-invested into the club to ensure continuous improvement.”
The club, famous for its 18 hole James Braid golf course also offers 6 England Squash and Racketball Gold Standard courts, some of the best indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools in Exeter which are open all year round and a gym, which was refurbished early last year.
Exeter Golf and Country Club has been located on Topsham Road since 1929, but originally opened in the Pennsylvania area of the city in 1895. The club now has over 5000 members as well as a commercial operation with function rooms for private events, and Wear Park Bar and Restaurant, located in the main mansion house overlooking the putting green.
A £1 million development project started back at the end of 2008, when Wear Park Bar and Restaurant was refurbished followed by the indoor swimming pool with over £182,000 invested. Next in line was a £150,000 renovation of the gym and fitness facilities, which re-opened on New Year’s Day 2012 with new interactive Life Fitness equipment.
There has been a 229% increase in gym members following the investment in theGym and the club’s fitness studio which offers a full range of holistic, fitness and endurance classes. The development plans are continuing this year with refurbishments taking place in the changing rooms, tennis courts and member cafe bar areas.
Martin Halse continues, “Our new member numbers are incredible. We are continuing our improvements as part of the club’s ‘Delivering Excellence’ programme for our members and guests. With our membership prices starting from just over £1 a day we know we offer a level of membership for everyone. Exeter Golf and Country Club is a very welcoming and accessible club with a friendly ‘home from home’ atmosphere for all.”
Exeter Golf and Country Club members range from families, to young couples and grandparents. The number of family members has also increased since the club launched a new ‘All Sports Junior Membership’ in April 2012, which starts from £50 a year.
