Welcome to our new Club President, Kevin Butler, who takes over from Liz Turner for 2016. Kevin is looking forward to meeting as many members as possible during the year ahead, helping to improve the club and raise awareness and funds for his charity of the year, Motor Neurone Disease Association. Here is an introduction to Kevin…
Kevin and his wife Maggie have been members of the Club since moving to the South West from Solihull in 2004. All three children, Naomi, Miriam and David, were members then as well; and Miriam has recently re-joined after moving back to Lympstone with husband Jon.
Both Maggie, a recently retired teacher, and Kevin use the gym and pools regularly and Kevin chaired the Fitness Committee for several years, during which time the gym was refurbished.
Since completing a 33 year career at the Bank of England in 2010, Kevin has been working part time as a Consultant Economist and sometimes appears on BBC’s Spotlight – usually, he says, when the BBC are desperate for news! He is a Non-Executive Director of Western Provident Association (WPA), the medical insurance business, and a Director of the Creative Education Trust, which sponsors a number of primary and secondary school academies in the Midlands and East of England.
Maggie and Kevin are also active at St Leonard’s Church, where Maggie is very involved with the music, and Kevin treads the boards with the Exton Drama Club – featuring with dubious distinction in their Christmas 2015 pantomime, Aladdin!
Kevin’s chosen charity in 2016 is the Motor Neurone Disease Association and he has a place in the Brighton Marathon in April, for which he is in training. April will be a “month of marathons”, with Club members also participating in the Paris and London marathons. Kevin looks forward to this and the “Olympic summer of sport” at the Club in July which, among other great events, will feature the formal re-opening of the golf course.
