2016 has been an exciting year for Wear Park Spa. After being open for just 18 months, the spa won the Exeter Living Award for the Best Beauty / Hair venue. This was the highlight of the spring and has been followed up by the opening of the third treatment room and new relaxation room this week. On top of this, Spa Therapist, Kerry Lewis has won the ESPA Top Therapist of the Month Award and the Exeter Golf and Country Club Employee of the Month! Phew!
With all this in mind, we thought it was high time we introduced the team behind the whirlwind success story…starting with the Spa Manager, Amber Austin.

I don’t have a favourite treatment as I enjoy all of them. Rather than doing the same treatment every day it’s nice to have a variety and most importantly for me it’s about delivering a great service and building that rapport with each client. Wear Park Spa is great because we specialise in providing wonderful spa days, but also because of our great location at Exeter Golf and Country Club, we offer everyday treatments like a beauty salon – but in a much more luxurious environment!
That is most probably the hardest question as I love ESPA. If I had to choose one product it would have to be the Optimal Pro Moisturiser. It’s a relatively new product which feels lightweight but as a responsive hydrator it works with the needs of your skin at the time, providing long lasting moisture, balance and a visibly healthy glow. It will protect during the day and regenerate in the evening. I don’t think I would go back to another moisturiser after using the Pro Moisturiser.
Drink at least two litres of water a day. Cleanse, tone and moisturise morning and evening – in fact, ESPA recommends a double cleanse before bed to ensure all the make up and daytime grime has gone! Body brush daily and apply a body moisturiser or body oil after your shower. Exfoliate 1-2 times a week dependant on your skin type. My skin can be quite dry so I tend to exfoliate a couple of times a week. If you have oily skin, I would advise once a week or every other week. Smudged nail? Rather than redoing the nail if you put cuticle oil on the nail and onto your finger you can smooth out the polish and fix the smudge.
Nourishing Cleansing Balm is perfect for winter skin. The beeswax transforms into a rich cleansing cream when water is applied. Youth restoring rose damascena tones and firms, while antioxidant grape seed nourishes and smooths, with rose geranium to gently calm the skin. This cleanser is good for all skin types especially dry or dehydrated.
SOS 24 Hour Skin Saviour.
This has definitely helped with my dry skin. It has an immediate effect treating cracked, dry skin that has been over-exposed to heat, cold or urban environments with an intense surge of hydration. Perfect to pack for skiing holidays and long flights, it also is great for calming mosquito bites – so a good all-rounder for winter and summer holidays.
Skin brushing – every morning before your shower, grab your skin brush (the ESPA one is the best I have used – and lasts a lifetime) and uses brisk strokes from feet to hips, wrists to shoulders, waist down and décolleté up on dry skin. You will feel invigorated, I promise! Giving skin a daily brush will significantly improve skin tone, helping to banish cellulite and boost cell renewal for smoother, softer, more radiant skin. With natural bristles from Mexican cactus plants, the ESPA skin brush swiftly stimulates circulation and eliminates toxins. You will notice the difference to your skin tone very quickly! The ESPA brush at £18 is THE number one investment in your body skin care I can recommend – and it suitable for everyone.
Exfoliating Skin Polish is a great pre-holiday holiday product preparing your skin for the sun, formulated to gently sweep away dry, rough skin while it cools and conditions.
For the face I recommend Optimal Skin ProDefence as a daily skin protector. It contains SPF 15 to protect against UV rays and works as a great primer under make up. The unique blend of plant, marine and aromatherapy actives is a pioneering daily sun protector against UVA and UVB rays, as well as environmental pollution, wind, heat and the cold.
What I love about Wear Park Spa:
I simply love everything about the spa. I have been involved since just before it opened and so I am obviously biased but on the whole, our clients do agree! The rooms are a good size with modern yet calming decor – I love that they are on the first floor with large windows and original shutters rather than in the basement or a pokey backroom like some spas and salons. The views across the golf course really do add to the whole experience, it’s very easy to forget you are actually so close to a city. We offer a wide variety of treatments which are always of a high standard and we really do value every client that visits the spa. Our Trip Advisor and Facebook reviews speak volumes!
Best moment in my career:
This is a hard one as there have been many moments. One of my highlights was being accepted to work on the cruise ships. It was a great experience in my career. Travelling and doing a job I love – what more could you ask for? Of course, seeing Wear Park Spa and my team grow since we opened in December 2014 makes me enormously proud. Winning the Exeter Living Award was definitely the best moment though!
Winning the Exeter Living award:
This was such an achievement for the spa and I am so pleased we have been recognised for the level of service that we offer. We are all so passionate about Wear Park Spa and the everyday luxury we have created.
