On Saturday 10th May the Exeter Golf and Country Club, 9 and under tennis team competed in the Devon Aegon Team Tennis competition.

The Exeter Golf and Country Club team, consisting of Noah Kerley, Billy Turl, George Guy and Sam Wilton-Davies played some fantastic tennis throughout the day to earn victories against Exeter Tennis Centre and Exmouth. Noah, playing at number one in the first match against Exeter Tennis Centre, fought well in a very close 7-9 7-3 8-6 loss against Antoine Rannou. Billy and Sam secured straight sets wins in their singles matches to leave the tie delicately balanced. After splitting the first two sets, George upped his game in the final set against Archie Kent to secure a 7-5 4-7 7-2 victory. The team made sure of an overall 10-2 victory by winning both doubles matches in straight sets.

In the second match against Exmouth, Noah was once again involved in an epic three set battle and couldn’t secure the final set against Nathaniel Cross. Billy, playing at number two, produced a faultless performance to beat Sam Reay 7-0 7-0. Victory for Sam and defeat for George left the tie drawn at 4-4 heading into the deciding doubles matches. The Exeter Golf and Country Club  players saved some of their best tennis for these crucial matches. Noah and Billy won 7-2 7-4 whilst George and Sam came through 7-1 7-2. These doubles successes secured an 8-4 victory and the Division 2 title for Exeter Golf and Country Club.

Ben Thorneycroft represented the club fantastically against some nationally ranked opposition.
