Greetings from Gary
Short Game Area
Past Captain, Andy Simey, and Captain, Viv Worthington, this week presented John Parr, our Course Manager, with a cheque for £500 raised during Andy’s year of office.
The Ladies’ section raised this money in order to enhance the look of our short game area.
The money will be used to assist with the planting of some colourful shrubs around the back of the short game facility.
Thank you to all those who gave so generously!
Last week’s men’s competition was a 123 team Stableford. The competitors must have been feeling lucky as they were greeted with mild conditions and a golf course in good enough condition to pass for the middle of the season. The majority of the players took advantage with low scoring required to contend at the top. Count back was required to split the winners as two teams posted a fantastic 82 points. The team of Jim Norton, Nigel Armstrong and Peter Bennett took the spoils with Roger Worthington, Captain Paul Smale and Martin McBain the disappointed runners up. A point further back were the team consisting of Chris Rocky, Andy Rocky and Dave Lewandowski. Fourth place, with 80 points, were Mark Crouch, Kevin Walkling and Mark Hawkesby.
Last Tuesday, the Ladies’ Section played a medalford. The format requires a medal on the front nine and then Stableford on the back nine. On completion of the round, the Stableford score is subtracted from the initial medal score. The Silver and Bronze 1 Divisions were both won with a score of 18 by Jackie Follett and Beverley Meeke, respectively. Rita Watson won the Bronze 2 Division with a score of 20. Paula O’Neill came second in the Silver Division with a score of 22 beating Anne Norman on count back. Sue Edwards was runner up in the Bronze 1 Division with a score of 19, with Marian Stanford four shots further back in third. Second place in Bronze 2 Division was Christine Ashby with Kazie Collison a shot further back.
