Ladies Closed Meeting
Last Tuesday, the Ladies Closed Meeting was played, signifying the end of the 2011 Summer Season. The Ladies were met with blustery conditions making scoring tough. Jane Vlietstra was the events’ overall winner with a fantastic 41 pts. This was good enough to beat the Bronze 1 Division winner, Val Perrot, by a single shot. In this Division, Sue Edwards came in second with 37pts. Four Ladies were a single point behind, but it was Chris Bailey that took third place on count back.

Barbara Shire came in second place in the Bronze 2 Division behind Jane with 36pts. Sarah Branton was a further shot back in third. Count back was required to determine the Silver Division winner with both Shirley Mason and Sal Rimmer recording 37pts. Shirley, with the better finish, took the title. The present Lady Captain, Viv Worthington, came in third position with 35pts.

Old Invincibles
The men were met with enjoyable playing conditions for the Old Invincibles competition last Saturday, however, due to the unseasonal weather we have experienced over the last couple of weeks, the course was still very dry, which could have foxed a number of the competitors. New member, Michael Fox, conquered the conditions with a fantastic score of 43pts. This was good enough to win the overall prize and Division Two by a single point over Dave Leverton. Geoff Pascoe came in third place with 40pts. Charles Kislingbury’s 41pts was good enough to win a tightly packed Division One with Adrian Hansell and Nigel Armstrong a shot further back with 40pts. Adrian took second place on count back.

Churston Pro Am
Last Friday, the Captain and I took part in the Churston Pro Am. The greens were slick and a real treat to putt on. This was reflected in the scoring as most competitors struggled to come to terms with the pace. ‘Yours Truly’ scored 72 to finish in fourth place. If you are thinking of using your County Card, then Churston is well worth a visit!
