Lombard Captain Pro Challenge
The Captain and I shot a very creditable 8 under par Better Ball at Woodbury Park, to finish third, losing the runner-up position by virtue of the back nine. We were two shots behind Barry Austin and his Captain from Downes Crediton who will now go on to the Grand Final in Turkey in late November – well done to them both!
Men’s Open Team Event
The four man open team event took place last Saturday. The course was in fantastic condition and the weather was lovely and sunny. Three teams were tied on 87 points. After separating the teams by virtue of better back nines and a better back six, the winning team consisted of Sam Rockey, Chris Rockey, Chris Bruce and Steve Robinson. Runners up were Brett Harvey, Mike Gard, Alan Wills and Kim Tucker. Well done to all those prize winners!
Ladies’ Invitation to the Men
This past Sunday the annual ladies’ invitational event to the men took place. The event saw some fantastic scoring with the team of Jim Norton and Debbie More winning with a fine score of 42 pts. The Club Captains, Viv Worthington and Paul Smale joined forces and using all the knowledge their captaincy year has brought so far put on a great performance. This was however not enough to topple the winners, falling one point short into second position. Ben More and Mary Fox came in third position, also with a score of 41 pts, unfortunately losing out on count back.
Palairet Trophy Fourth Round
Exeter played Portmore in the fourth round at Tiverton last Sunday. With the 2nd pairing of Ryan Pope and Ian Plowman winning on the 18th and the back pair of debutant George Robinson and Ryan Mapp also winning, the match was poised at 2-2. It looked all but over with the 3rd pairing of Jack Pascoe and Stuart Jose being 2 down with 3 to play. This was not the case with a late rally squaring the match and forcing extra holes. The dream of another fairytale ending however was short lived with a solid Portmore birdie on the 19th dashing the dreams of defending our 2010 title. Our unbeaten 9 match run had unfortunately come to an end however the fight shown by the third group and the support witnessed around the 1st green in the playoff showed clearly the club sprit that has lead to the success the team has achieved over the last 18 months!
Carris Trophy – Under 18 English Strokeplay Championship
Congratulations to Harrison Greenberry and Ryan Pope who finished 7th and 32nd respectively last week at Broadstone in the Carris Trophy. The highlight of the week was a round of 66 on the last day by Harrsion. Around this demanding Dorset Course, this was truly a remarkable round. This week, they are both representing Devon at Ferndown in the South West Championship. We wish them well!
