The 2014 Food and Drink Devon Awards at Exeter Golf and Country Club were a resounding success with guests celebrating their achievements while enjoying a three course dinner of local produce cooked by some of Devon’s top chefs. The awards evening took place on Monday 6th October with food and drink provided by Devon producers and suppliers.
With comments such as “The best food that I have ever tasted at a large function” by Mary Bury, Food and Drink Devon Director and Owner of Eversfield Organic, along with feedback from Gidleigh Park’s Hotel Manager and Head Chef saying the food was “outstanding”, the evening was enjoyed by all who attended.
The Food and Drink Devon Awards night has been running for four years with this year’s celebrated as the most successful to date. Food and Drink Devon have already committed to holding next year’s event at Exeter Golf and Country Club, claiming it was ‘the best Awards night yet”.
The three course dinner featured sesame crusted goats’ cheese, carpaccio of beetroot, beetroot syrup and popping candy as the starter, with a main course of slow roasted sirloin of beef cooked in a water bath, fondant potato, celeriac and truffle puree with red wine jus. Dessert was apple panna cotta, apple sorbet, sherbet and mulled blackberries. The compere for the evening was James Strawbridge.
The Food and Drink Devon Awards exist to celebrate the culinary successes of the county. Dedicated entirely to Devon food and drink producers, retailers and hospitality businesses, the prestigious awards offer platinum, gold and silver accreditations for winners to display on their menus, marketing and packaging. The robust measures undertaken to find winners for the three categories, Product, Hospitality and Retail, include thorough assessment by an independent judging panel made up of industry experts.
Chris Jones, General Manager of Exeter Golf and Country Club and Board Member of Food and Drink Devon said that this year’s entrants have set the bar higher than ever before.
“We were delighted to host the Food and Drink Devon Awards this year. Exeter Golf and Country Club is a great venue for an event like this with great facilities, free on site parking and a team of dedicated staff, all within a beautiful setting, just minutes from the city centre. We are proud to work with Food and Drink Devon and recognise Devon as a leading light in food and drink production. We had a great team of chefs on for the events and it is inspirational to see the county’s bountiful products being embraced by our local hospitality and retail businesses. Food and Drink Devon is incredibly proud of all the businesses who won awards and made the shortlist.”
