Hooray, we’re finalists! Exeter Golf and Country Club and Wear Park Spa have made it through to the final of the Exeter Living Awards. We are delighted to over the moon to say that having entered the Leisure and Tourism category and the Hair and Beauty category, collectively we are double finalists.
We are so proud to have made it so far as the competition has been great. Although in their first year, the Media Clash, Exeter Living Awards have attracted more entries than expected and so for us to be recognised as finalists in two categories is exceptional.
2015 a year of success – Exeter Living Awards
The past year has brought many achievements and successes to Exeter Golf and Country Club and the change in the air is tangible. With more compliments, positive reviews and fantastic feedback than ever before, momentum is certainly building at the club. 2015 was a busy year for staff, members and guests with developments including the new golf course layout following years of negotiation with Persimmon, new tennis courts replacing four of the six outdoor courts, refurbishment of the cafe and Sports Bar, gym and fitness studio, new spinning bikes and the outdoor pool repairs enabling winter open-air swimming for members.
Investment in our staff members has led to a stable, happy team. We have introduced hospitality training with award winning Sidona Group, mystery shopping, Employee of the Month, Induction Programmes, Train the Trainer Team and emails to all staff to keep them up to date with club activity and news.
The team at the club have excelled themselves as well this past year. Lifeguard Elliott Chandler and Head of Pools, Dan Shiguemiti made the front page of the Express and Echo for saving the life of a member, Elliott was then a finalist in the Lifeguard of the Year Award. Our Head of Rackets, James Temple was awarded Young Coach of the Year by Devon LTA, and his assistant Tom was awarded Volunteer of the Year. Our Head Chef, Adam Little beat Michael Caines, MBE in the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink ‘Ready Steady Cook’ competition. Our Gym Manager, Lee Cooke returned from a period in Afghanistan as a RAF Reservist.
Golf member, Rob Simpson was recognised as Club Person of the Year for 2015 after donating a kidney to his friend and fellow member, Martin Aggett.
There have been many new launches, not least of which was the creation of Wear Park Spa on the first floor of our Georgian manor house. A finalist of the Hair and Beauty category, the spa has been a resounding success since opening with customer feedback, repeat business and fully booked weekends speaking for themselves! The spa is all set for an expansion in March/April when another double treatment room will open. Other launches this year have included Get Into Golf, Junior Golf Academy, Blueberry Nutrition menus and get into sport campaigns.
Environmentally we have adopted a Zero to Landfill policy and light bulb replacement programme, while out on the golf course the Greenkeepers are working hard to encourage wildlife while providing the best we can in terms of playability for golfers.
2015 has been a great year for Exeter Golf and Country Club. Fingers crossed for the finals of the Exeter Living Awards on 14th April.
