Saturday 7th May 2011
The annual Devon County Golf Union Order of Merit Event, The Directors Cup took place on Saturday with a huge anmount of success for the ‘home’ players.
With both Nett and Gross Prizes on offer, Exeter players took top spot in each division.
First out at 0645 was home Member Wayne Chant who came in with a fantastic Nett 64 playing off 7. This was matched later in the morning by John Higgins (Warren GC) playing off a handicap of 8. These two players were some distance ahead of all the other competitors. Once the afternoon round had started, Wayne came in with a Nett 68 for a six under total. Higgins collapsed in the afternoon and that led to home Junior, Joe Carnell, rise up the prizes with a nett 65 to claim second place
The County player contingent that were fighting it out for the Scratch prize (Andrew Redfern memorial Salver) all struggled in the morning. with no players breaking par and only Ben Isaacs (libbaton GC) matching par. The afternoon was a different story with Steve Buzza shooting a fantastic 64 which included a double on the 9th hole! Steve’s one under total of 137 was good enough to win the prize and to finish ahead of Jacob Tinsley, a last minute replacement into the field.
The course was in fantastic condition, prepared by John parr and his team and with some different pin positions than the players are used to.
