Exeter Golf and Country Club 2nd squash team had an impressive 19-6 victory over top of the table rivals Devon & Exeter 3, to take them to the top of the first division.

Simon Irvin was untouchable at 1 and played Bruce Macdonald off the court.

George Setter, Chris Goodwill and Greg Parsons enjoyed comprehensive wins over Pete Doman, Alan Taylor and Brian Sherrell respectively, however arguably the team performance of the night came at string 3 where Robin Turl narrowly lost out 3-2 to Dave Jones in a very entertaining and hard fought battle.

Exeter Golf and Country Club squash team are off to Dartington next week for a potential tricky fixture and the team looks forward to welcoming Dave Baitup back for his first match of the season.


There were more wins for the 1st squash team at Exeter Golf and Country Club against competitive Torquay 1st team with a 3 games -2, 15 points -7 victory.

Torquay had their full strength team out and were pumped up to get a result.

Chris Turner at 1, had a very close game against Dave Palmer both players demonstrating some exhilarating squash, with Christian just losing each game by 2 points.

Luke Bishop despatched Stuart Perrett in 25 mins 3-0, Perrett encountered relentless pressure from Bishop in the first game and he ran out of steam during the next game and only got 3 points in the 3rd game. Skippy won 3-0 against Jason Yeo, Skippy clinically powered his way to a convincing victory,

Nigel Bell lost 3-1 and was outsmarted by Ian Branston, but put up a commendable performance.

At this stage, it was 2-2 and the final game was on Exeter’s  no 3, Gary Bennett

Gary at 3 played the game of the evening, even though carrying a recent back problem, he maintained focus on his game and beat young Steve Lewis 3-1. Gary demonstrated great discipline and control on court, giving Exeter Golf and Country Club a home win.
