Tennis Winter Season Review

2014/15 Winter Tennis Season Review

There was double title success for Exeter Golf and Country Club’s tennis teams this winter season. The men’s A team were the only unbeaten team across the Exeter and District League as they secured the division 1 title by sixteen points from second placed David Lloyd. There was similar dominance for the Mixed A team in the East Devon League as they finished top by fourteen points from Victoria Park, winning eight of their ten matches. The mixed success continues an impressive record of EGCC teams winning division 1 every year since 1993.

The ladies A team were agonisingly close to acquiring another title for the Club, denied by only three points by Victoria Park A in division 1. Ladies division 4 saw a very close battle for promotion which came down to the last match of the season. Needing an 8-0 win away at Teign Valley B to secure promotion, the ladies B team duly delivered to end one point higher than Sidford and finish in second spot.

The men’s B team were playing their first season in division 2 and finished in a very respectable fourth position. The mixed B team experienced a difficult season in division 1 following promotion last year and will be back in division 2 this winter. The mixed C team protected their position in division 3, finishing the season in fourth.

Thanks to all of the members who captained and played for the tennis teams this winter season. The summer is now underway with nine adult and five junior teams competing in the Exeter and District, East Devon and Aegon Team Tennis competitions. Good luck to everyone representing the club this year.
