Last Week’s Results
Although the early starters of this week’s men’s competition were met with damp conditions, the increase in temperature was favourable to good scoring. This effect was also combined with the fine condition in which the course was presented by John Parr and his green staff.
In Greensomes, if you are able to combine with your partner off the tee, you should be in a position to attack the course on most holes and produce a low score. This was definitely the case for the father-and-son pairing of Andy and Sam Garner, who produced an incredible 49 points, this being good enough for a three point victory. Three pairs produced scores of 46 points, with Chris Sillifant and Geoff Turner taking second place on count back and pushing another family pair, brothers Dean and Jack Jordan, into third place. Phil Sudworth and Colin Willett fell victim of the count back system with their 46 points achieving fourth place. A shot further back, and in fifth place, was the in-form pairing of Tom Baillie and Chris Gaite.
The ladies section played a medalford last Tuesday. This strange format involves playing 9 holes under medal conditions and 9 holes under Stableford conditions. The Stableford points are then subtracted from the nett medal score.
Alison Scoble won the Silver division with a total of 9 and Jill Searle won the Bronze 1 division with a total of 7. These scores were good enough for five-shot victories. Gill Newbery came in second place in the Silver division with 14, beating Kathy Mcbain by a single shot into third place. Caroline Parker, with a total of 12, came in Bronze 1 second, with Pat McFadyen in third with 14. The Bronze 2 division was a close affair, with Sheila Bolden winning with a total of 14. A shot further back in second place was Marilyn Jones, who was one shot ahead of third -placed Carol Gregory.
