Exeter Charity Pro Am
Last Sunday, our annual charity Pro Am was played with over 45 teams participating. The day was successful from both the performances on the course and the organisation behind the scene. Michaell Watson from the Wessex Golf Centre continued his good season with a fine 64 beating Lanhydrock’s Richard O’Hanlon by a single shot. Chris Gill and Mark Taylor flew the Exeter flag with both home Professionals producing very respectable 67s, finishing in tied 3rd. Fellow Exeter Professional, Sean Mason, captained his team, MARSH Ltd consisting of Ian Black, Colin Papworth and Charlotte Dommett into third position in the team standings. Allparts Southwest came in second, with the team consisting of Dave Newbery, Martyn Newbery and Jon Parry with professional Richard Dinsdale. This year’s winners, with an outstanding 19 under par score, were the appropriately named ‘The Champions’ led by Professional Iain Brown, consisting of Paul and Mark Champion and Ben Harding.
Devon County Scratch Foursomes
Ryan Pope and Harrison Greenberry have brought yet more honours to the club by winning the Devon Scratch Foursomes. This event was played at the weekend at Torquay Golf Club. They scored rounds of 74 + 70 = 144 to win by 4 shots from Jason Hampton & Jack Potter from Stover. Well done, chaps!!
They say, “A change is as good as a rest!” Well, it seems this was never truer than Saturday when Dave Ski won the Iddisleigh Cup with a season’s best net 64. “Dave was lucky to be playing at all, having just returned from a boys’ week away,” his wife Vicky (who is obviously very understanding) was heard to comment. “It must have been the rest!” Dave’s usual set of playing partners all sent congratulatory messages for him into the Pro Shop. They were also concerned that Dave’s playing partners on the day hadn’t fallen asleep during his ‘pre-shot routine’ and wanted to check Dave played off the Whites and not the Junior tees!
The competition was played in some testing conditions, although you wouldn’t have thought so with the scoring being so low. Dave Lewandowski came out on top with a very good net 64 – not off 11 for much longer Dave. This score bagged him the overall prize and 1st place in Division 1, although only a shot behind Dave were Simon House (65) and Dave Adams (65).
Division 2 was won by one of our new members. Ian Davie, who has joined us from Woodbury, shot a net 66 to win by a shot from Paul Stanbridge (67) with Tim Linnington a further shot behind (68).
This week’s best gross prize goes to Steve Buzza for a gross 71 (2 over par).
Well done to all!
