The much anticipated Directors Cup was contested last weekend, with 92 golfers competing in the 36 hole event. The conditions for this annual fixture started out very cold for the 6.45am starters and did not get much warmer throughout the day. Cold winds set in and with the course playing is true length due to the recent inclement weather, scoring was tough.
The winner of the handicap Directors Cup was a man in great form. George Robinson won the Laurie White OOM the previous week and followed it up with a fine 36 hole score of net 139 (+1) to take home the trophy.
Exeter members dominated the prizes with Stuart Jose taking second place in the overall net category scoring 141. Third was Mark Taylor (yes – there is another one) from Tavistock. Another Exeter Member took 4th place, Dan Holt carding a net 142. Completitng the Directors Cup prizes was Nick Bunn from Crediton Golf Club.
The Andrew Redfern Salver is played alongside the Directors Cup. This is the Scratch prize for the lowest gross score for the 2 rounds. Ryan Mapp claimed victory with a very good 36 hole score of 141 (+3). Ryans two rounds of 69 and 72 were enough to take 1st place from Peter Lawrence 71 71 (Woodbury Park) by a single shot. Also on 142 was the 1st round leader David Blick 67 75 (East Devon).
Other prizes from the day were Best Gross AM won by Tom Woodhouse (71); Best Gross PM James Smith (Yelverton, 67); Best Nett AM Adrian Hansell (68) and Best Nett PM Robert Allen (Broadstone, 66)
